James A. Garfield National Historic Site Hosting Online Presidents’ Day Events

James A. Garfield National Historic Site will host various online events to commemorate Presidents’ Day on Monday, February 21.  There will be no onsite activities that day.

At 11 a.m., everyone is invited to enjoy a recorded presentation of a panel discussion about presidential sites.  National Park Service representatives of Lincoln Home National Historic Site (Springfield, Illinois); Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site (St. Louis, Missouri); and Herbert Hoover National Historic Site (West Branch, Iowa) will join a representative from James A. Garfield National Historic Site to discuss challenges and rewards of working at presidential homes.  That program will be posted to the site’s You Tube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvq59gIwhkcWsveI7QR6iFA/.

The link will also be shared at 11 a.m. via Facebook and Twitter.

From 12 p.m.- 1 p.m., join the site’s staff on Twitter (@GarfieldNPS) for a live-tweet presidential trivia game.  This is an adaptation of the famous presidential trivia game that normally takes place at James A. Garfield National Historic Site’s annual Presidents’ Day event.

Finally, see the site’s Facebook page (@GarfieldNPS) for a new presidential history post every two hours from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. that day.

“We’re excited to offer these online activities for Presidents’ Day 2022,” said Todd Arrington, Site Manager of James A. Garfield National Historic Site.  “Since we can’t host our usual Presidents’ Day event on site this year, we’re thankful to have the technology to still be able to interact with the public on one of our favorite holidays.”

James A. Garfield National Historic Site is located at 8095 Mentor Avenue (U.S. 20) in Mentor, Ohio, approximately 25 miles east of Cleveland.  The site offers guided Garfield home tours, museum exhibits, a biographical film, walking paths, and two outdoor cell phone tours.  For information call (440) 255-8722, write 8095 Mentor Avenue, Mentor, OH 44060, or visit www.nps.gov/jaga.  Find the site as @GarfieldNPS on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
